On 21 September 2022 at Welgemoed farm, north of Beaufort West, Conservation at Work, together with Land Care, hosted an engaging day for landowners in the Karoo. The day consisted of a welcoming by Conservation at Work and Land Care. There were talks from members of the Gamka Karoo SMA (special management area) on the work they are doing as farmers bordering a national park and the challenges they face, and the social upliftment initiatives they have started. There was a presentation by Danielle Du Toit from Endangered Wildlife Trust on the importance of vultures in the natural system, the threats they face and the Vulture Safe Space project in the Karoo. Danielle also introduced the concept of holistic land management. Lunch was sponsored by Land Care and the braai under the Acacia trees was enjoyed by all. The day ended with an afternoon walk on the farm to discuss vegetation and erosion structures.
